Darren's Blog - KIB105

This is a motion graphics work that I created for an assesment in my Australian University course. It is a portayal of my “Inner Thoughts” and displays my naive ideas of the world and the human condition. I hope you enjoy watching and please comment if you feel like it.

NOTE: The creative commons licence used is an American one because share alike doesn’t seem to be in the Australian Creative Commons yet. And I had to do this because I used one of the tracks from NIN’s Ghosts album which was distributed under a share alike licence. Also, in the process of uploading, some of the detail was lost and the video was made darker than the original. (it doesn’t look quite as good…awww)

Mood Board Discussion

Hello there…,

after developing these mood boards, I had a good look at them; they didn’t have the “polish” I wanted them to have, something seemed to be missing. This is ok though, because I know that this isn’t the finished product and there is more development to go. While I wasn’t neccesarily happy with the final result, I believe that they clearly illustrate the feel of the work intended and really shows off some of the core visual elements that are going to be included in the motion graphic. So, as a milestone I think they really serve their purpose and help me to have a solid picture in my head when I start to create this work.

I have gone through a lot of different ideas and have made different versions of the audio I wanted to use… but this is now the final piece that I wish to use. It evokes a darkish feel and shows a different side to my persona and I wish to also explore this with as much detail as possible.

It is also important to note that the backing audio is track 31 from Nine Inch Nail’s Ghosts album (released in creative commons) with the vocals being recorded by me.

I figured I should put this up and display it… I got a 5+ for this assignment, I really felt it could of got a 6… I tried hard like usual, but still to no evail… I hope I can do better on the next two assesments.

Although it is an old concept, I really like the feel this kind of video produces… infomative but sinister and beautiful usually… Kenetic typography is also used quite nicely and is an element that I wish to include in my animation… I hope to be able to take this kind of motiongraphics to a slightly different place and extend the experience.

This is a nice motion graphics audio driven work that has a generative art feel to it… My final piece I think will have a similar feel… I want it to have flowing motion… but be erratic, follow the pace of the music, have a strong, electronic, sc-fi feel to the visuals, include 3D elements and be quite dark. I want to portray my inner thoughts and their sometime contradicting nature.

This is an illustration of someone exploring inner thoughts and self… which is a theme that I want to be strong through my final assignment… This will help to give me ideas through the design process..
